Plain talk
No fear-selling and no jargon without an explanation. If a feature does not matter to most homes, we say so.
About this site
Plainly Secure explains home security and smart-home monitoring in plain language, so you can judge a system and a contract on your own terms.
This domain previously belonged to a home security business. That business is not connected to this site in any way, and nothing here is written by it or on its behalf. We are not an alarm company or dealer. We do not sell, install or monitor systems, we do not take referrals, and we do not recommend individual providers.
What we write is independent guidance: how the technology works, what a typical system includes, and what to check in a monitoring contract. Every guide on the site is newly written.
We do not accept payment for mentioning products or companies, and we describe features by what they do rather than by any vendor's brand name.
How the guides are written
No fear-selling and no jargon without an explanation. If a feature does not matter to most homes, we say so.
Every guide ends with the questions you should put to a provider, because that is where good value is won or lost.
Technology helps, but locked doors and sensible routines do most of the work. The safety tips come before the shopping list.
